How to improve your Google review? — Learning from a digital immigrant

My dad has a little company with 15 employees. He is definitely the opposite of a digital native.
However, he starts to realize that having an excelent Google rating is becoming more and more important in the business world. Choosing where to eat, where to get a photoshooting, where to go shopping is just one click away. He now begins to understand that everyone asks Google before deciding. Whom you can trust and who has top quality is shown by the google reviews.
A month a go, my dad called me histerically. People around him and his socialmedia consultant showed him that he just has a 3 star google business rating. He aksed me to change it with “my magic hands”. Of course I could not change it with development skills.

Fake it — Not the best solutation

Against my advice his socialmedia consultant start trying to fake it by creating many fake accounts. She wrote many reviews, some of which are still there and some were deleted by google.

A digital immigrant finds a solution

My dad was getting an oldschool but easy and efficient solution: One of his employees got the orders to compare the reviews with the order system or the public telephone directory. Every match should be printed out. Than my father made a phone call or wrote a letter to the reviewer. The people were suprised by getting a personal feedback. After this intervention, over 90% of the reached reviewer gave him a 5 star rating or deleted the review. And in addition to that, he got the chance to correct the mistakes he had done and he got new understandings directly from the clients.
Of course you can write back directly in google business. But do you really think someone will write back to you for a discussion adressing your supportmail ?

Customers normally don’t just want to destroy your business. They are looking for someone who is interessted in their problems.

Customers just want good quality, excellent service and human contact. Sometimes personal contact with a good heart destroys digital fights.
